THIS SUBJECT IS DESIGNED TO BE TAKEN IN THE FIRST SEMESTER OF ENROLMENT IN THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE. YOU MUST ENROL IN THE SEMESTER YOU COMMENCE THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE. Science is integral to tackling the biggest challenges of the 21st Century facing humanity. As students in the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science (Extended) you will be equipped to address these challenges and come up with the future solutions: whether it is developing carbon removal technologies, building artificial intelligence systems, advancing vaccine science, or protecting ecosystems from climate change impacts. No matter your interests in science, you will have the opportunity to lead the scientific developments that will shape humanity's progress. In this subject you will engage with world-leading science experts at the University to consider how we gather information and build trust in science. You will acquire an understanding of the scope of the current scientific research at the University of Melbourne and discover the power and potential of science to make a positive impact on the future of the planet and humanity. This subject is marked on a pass/fail basis and is not included in the weighted average mark (WAM) calculation.
