Mind, Brain & Behaviour 1 provides an introduction to the psychological concepts, theories and neural mechanisms that explain how we sense, perceive, learn, think and remember. Students are introduced to the research methods used in psychology for answering questions and solving problems related to human behaviour. Students apply their knowledge and skills in a team-based project that addresses a contemporary problem and communicate their findings in a team-based presentation. They learn how to build an evidence-based argument and communicate this in an individual literature review or empirical report. Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to:

genuinely accessible with zero psychology background. the content on brain, perception and behaviour builds from first principles and the structure is clear enough that most students feel on top of it throughout the semester

vce psych helps a little but the exam rewards understanding and application over pure definition recall. being able to explain why something works matters more than just naming the concept

workload is manageable and the marking criteria is published. students who read the rubric carefully before writing the lab report consistently do better than those who just start writing
