Introduction to MedTech Innovation immerses students in the Medical Technology sector, providing essential knowledge on the frameworks and processes required to bring medical device concepts to clinical use. This semester-long subject is designed for students from diverse backgrounds, offering a comprehensive exploration of the MedTech value chain. It aims to give students a thorough understanding of the MedTech sector, equipping them with industry-specific knowledge needed for the MedTech workforce while developing essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. This subject is hands-on and experiential. Weekly seminars led by academic and industry experts set the pace, while students work in small groups under the guidance of an industry mentor to address challenges in the medical device translational pathway. Key stages covered include clinical need validation, stakeholder interviews, product development strategy, commercialization, financing, reimbursement, regulatory considerations, and clinical strategy for market entry. Introduction to MedTech Innovation is taught by a team of academics, industry experts, commercialization specialists, and healthcare entrepreneurs, providing students with industry immersion, professional networking opportunities, and valuable insights the illustrate the potential and impact of careers in MedTech.
